Georgetown upsets Matignon

No. 5 seeded Georgetown crushed No. 1 Matigon 9-1 in a Division 3 North semifinal game and advanced to the fina at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Woburn. It will play the winner of today's semifinal between Shawsheen and Greater Lowell.

Nicoline Holland took a pass from Nicole DiMaio off a corner and blasted home a goal with seven minutes left in the game to give No. 5  Georgetown a 3-2 win over No. 13 Weston in the Division 3 North quarterfinals.

Pentucket's season ends in OT

No. 6 Belmont scored off a corner kick with less than a minute left in overtime to beat No. 11 Pentucket 2-1 in the first round of the Division 2 North tournament.  

Pentucket ended its season with an 8-6-5 record.

Brooks 3, Governor's Academy 1

Brooks School moved Andover's Marina Moschitto from midfield to a forward slot with tremendous results yesterday in a 3-1 win over the Governor's Academy. She had two goals and an assist as the Green and White improved to 8-1-3. Nikki Kisner added a goal and an assist.

North Andover's girls soccer team scored the only goal of the game with 47 seconds left to nip Georgetown in a tense Cape Ann League battle. Caroline Kirby scored the goal in a pass from Alana Houlihan after a corner kick for the Knights (6-3-4). The Royals dropped to 9-2-1.

Sophomore nets winner

North Reading sophomore Lauren Hebert, who is in her first year starting on varsity, helped her team erase a one-goal halftime deficit by scoring the game-winner with 20 minutes left in the contest. Hebert also scored one goal in the first half as North Reading beat Amesbury 3-2. Lauren Pawlowski, who is returning from an ACL injury, also scored a goal and added an assist.

LYNN — The Newburyport girls soccer team’s march for a second consecutive state title has only one step remaining.

The Clippers advanced to the Division 3 state final last evening with a 1-0 double-overtime victory over Division 3 South sectional champion Cohasset. Only 22 seconds remained before the game entered its final stage — penalty kicks — when Hannah McCormick kept Newburyport’s run for back-to-back titles intact. She scored the goal from 12 yards out, slipping a high shot past Cohasset goalie Johanna Brophy.

Newburyport cruises to victory

NEWBURYPORT — The opening two rounds of the state tournament have been nothing short of target practice for the Newburyport girls soccer team over the past three seasons.

The Clippers posted their sixth consecutive pre-semifinal round shutout yesterday, beating North Reading, 2-0, in the EMass. Division 3 North quarterfinal at Cherry Hill Park. The second-seeded Clippers received a goal and an assist from junior Veronica Poirier. Senior Taylor Bresnahan added a goal, and classmate Laura Muise had an assist.
