Merrimack College freshman goaltender Joe Cannatawas named the Hockey East  Rookie of the Week. Cannata stopped 35 shots last Friday, leading the Warriors to a 3-2 upset victory over fifth-ranked Vermomt.

This is the third time Cannata has received a weekly honor this season by Hockey East.

Merrimack (7-18-3, 3-16-2 HE) hosts Providence College Saturday at 7 p.m. at Lawler Arena, before visiting the Friars Sunday at 4 p.m. in a game that will be televised by ESPNU.

Craig White and Brandon Middleton scored goals for Triton. Keegan Howes, Sean Lawless and Brian Cosgrove had assists. Mike Kaminsky had 17 saves. Triton will meet the loser of tomorrow's matchup between Matignon and Haverhill in Fournier Division consolation game on Thursday evening (5 p.m.).

Bob DiSorbo and goalie Andrew Mueskes could both lay laim to being Mr. Clutch as the Pentucket hockey team defeated Saugus 4-3 in a shootout in the opening game of the Newburyport Bank Tournament.

Colin Robinson and Keegan Howes scored goals for Triton (1-12-3). Craig White had two assists. Caleb Woodworth and Alex Saunders had assists. Mike Kaminsky had 23 saves. Carl Orlandi had 10.

HAVERHILL — Two days, two big 5-2 victories, and two hat tricks from Ryan Sifferlen have North Andover rolling.

“He’s playing very well right now,” said North Andover coach Denis Barrette. “He is peaking at the right time.”

Amesbury battled to the end, but could not overcome the two-goal advantage North Reading built in the second period. Where the Hornets stung the Indians was on the power play converting two goals on only four times on the man-up whereas Amesbury did not convert on any power plays.

Brandon Middleton led Triton (1-10-3) with three goals and an assist. Craig White had four assists. Keegan Howes added a goal and two assists. Sean Lawless scored a goal. Colin Robinson and Mike Babeau had an assist. Mike Kaminsky (13 saves), Carl Orlandi (9 assists) and Matt Beavers (6 assists) split duties in goal. 

Eighth-grader Jake Silk scored his first career varsity goal and North Andover took care of business in an 8-2 win over Pentucket/Georgetown.
"We're in a playoff mood right now, and it's all about winning big games," said Knights' coach Dennis Barrette. "And they don't get any bigger than our next one against Lynnfield. It's the kind of game we just have to win."

With the score knotted at 2-2, Pentucket's Ryan McCarthy sent a sharp pass to Bobby DiSorbo, who was streaking on a breakaway in the nuetral zone. DiSorbo made a nice deke move past North Reading's Garrett Topping and netted his second goal of the game for the winner. Andrew Mueskes nabbed 26 saves.

Ryan Sifferlen's cold streak is firmly behind him. After scoring just one goal in his last five games, the North Andover senior and reigning Eagle-Tribune Player of the Year scored three goals and assisted on another as the Scarlet Knights played Triton to a 4-4 tie. It was Sifferlen's second hat trick of the season. 

Down 4-2 with less than five minutes remaining, the Vikings (1-9-3) earned a point against the Scarlet Knights (4-4-4). Keegan Hawes had two goals. Craig White added a goal and an assist. Sean Lawless had a goal. Caleb Woodworth, Mike Balbo, Alex Saunders and Brandon Middleton had assists. Karl Orlandi had 13 saves for Triton. Matt Beavers had 11. Mike Kaminsky had nine.

Brandon Middleton scored Triton's only goal. Matt Beavers had 17 saves for Triton (1-10-2). Carl Orlandi made 10 saves. Mike Kaminsky made three.

In a close matchup with North Reading, Amesbury lacked an emotional spark despite doing many good things on the ice in a 2-0 loss, according to coach Peter Cignetti. Matt Irwin made 29 saves and Cignetti additionally gave praise to Bill Enaire, Zach Pizzo, and Jacob Burns for good performances.

Brandon Middleton led Triton with three goals and two assists. Caleb Woodworth added a goal and two assists for the Vikings (1-9-1). Keegan Howes (goal, assist), Colin Robinson (goal assist) and Brian Cosgrove (assist) also recorded points.

Matt McCarthy and Max Mangano scored a pair of goals each as Pentucket-Georgetown roughed up Triton, 6-3. Joining the pair in the scoring fest were Alex Connolly and Mack Cavanaugh. John Gavin (three) and Garrett Dubina (two) combined for five assists, and Andrew Mueskes posted 23 saves.
