Merrimack goalie cited

 

 

Merrimack College freshman goaltender Joe Cannatawas named the Hockey East  Rookie of the Week. Cannata stopped 35 shots last Friday, leading the Warriors to a 3-2 upset victory over fifth-ranked Vermomt.

This is the third time Cannata has received a weekly honor this season by Hockey East.

Merrimack (7-18-3, 3-16-2 HE) hosts Providence College Saturday at 7 p.m. at Lawler Arena, before visiting the Friars Sunday at 4 p.m. in a game that will be televised by ESPNU.

Knights smooth at Silk

Eighth-grader Jake Silk scored his first career varsity goal and North Andover took care of business in an 8-2 win over Pentucket/Georgetown.
"We're in a playoff mood right now, and it's all about winning big games," said Knights' coach Dennis Barrette. "And they don't get any bigger than our next one against Lynnfield. It's the kind of game we just have to win."

Breakaway winner

With the score knotted at 2-2, Pentucket's Ryan McCarthy sent a sharp pass to Bobby DiSorbo, who was streaking on a breakaway in the nuetral zone. DiSorbo made a nice deke move past North Reading's Garrett Topping and netted his second goal of the game for the winner. Andrew Mueskes nabbed 26 saves.

Ryan Sifferlen's cold streak is firmly behind him. After scoring just one goal in his last five games, the North Andover senior and reigning Eagle-Tribune Player of the Year scored three goals and assisted on another as the Scarlet Knights played Triton to a 4-4 tie. It was Sifferlen's second hat trick of the season.
