Sachems upended

 

 Pentucket's boys tennis team lost its first match of the season, 4-1 to Bedford in the Division 3 North quarterfinals.

"We had a great season, but Bedford plays in a tough league and we didn't play as well today as we have been," said Pentucket coach Christian Langlois.

Perfect Sachems

 

For the second straight day, the second doubles team of Nate Eames and Brandon Conn came through in the clutch, delivering a three-set victory to lift Pentucket over Hamilton-Wenham 3-2 to end the Sachems' regular season at a perfect 16-0.

Worth the wait

Tied 2-2 going into the deciding third set of the second doubles match on May 19, Mother Nature forced Pentucket and Marblehead off the court. Wild weather all month delayed the finish until yesterday when Nate Eames and Brandon Conn pulled out a 6-3 victory to keep the Sachems unbeaten at 15-0. Pentucket looks for a perfect finish when it hosts Hamilton-Wenham at 10 a.m. today.

Sachems take title

Led by a win at first singles by Ryan Swanson, Pentucket clinched the Cape Ann League Large boys tennis title with a 5-0 victory over Wilmington.

"The kids are so pumped," said Sachems coach Christian Langlois. "Every one of the kids playing on the varsity team was playing varsity two years ago when were were (4-12). So this is a huge deal for them."

Doubles comeback

 

The unbeaten Pentucket boys tennis team blanked North Andover 5-0, the highlight being the win first doubles Nick Giannino and B.G. Smith. They were blanked 6-0 in the first set but won the second set on a tiebreaker and then prevailed 6-1 in the clinching set.

Ryan Swanson, Pat Dahn and the doubles team of Nick Giannino and B.G. Smith all remained unbeaten as Pentucket's tennis team prevailed over North Reading, 4-1. After losing their first match, Nate Eames and Brandon Conn won their seventh straight match for the Sachems.

Still perfect

Ryan Swanson came back after a first set loss to score successive 6-2 wins and set the pace for Pentucket in a 5-0 win over Mancehster-Essex.  The Sachems stay perfact (7-0) and received a strong performance from Pat Dahn, who recorded a 7-5, 6-0 sweep.  Swanson and Dahn both remain undefeated as well as the doubles team of Nick Giannino and B.G. Smith, who also came back to score a 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 decision.

Both doubles teams —  Nick Giannino and B.G. Smith at No. 1 and Nates Bames and Pat Baga at No. 2 — won their matches for the Sachems (10-5).

Ryan Swanson, Taylor Beaton, and the doubles pairing of Nate Eames and Dan Morin all lost their first sets for the Sachems (2-2) but stormed back to win their matches.
