Pentucket 8th grader Tyler Knox continued his 106-pound rivalry with Salem's Calvin Dalton Saturday and this time he won decisively, 13-6, to claim first at the Cape Ann League/Northeast Conference meet.

Led by two goals from Kaylee Thomas and three assists from Eagle-Tribune field hockey MVP Casey Thompson, Central Catholic opened its season with a 4-1 victory over Beverly.

Pentucket's Kalon Boston remained unbeaten, taking the Division 3 North title at 182 pounds, winning 5-3 in the finals. Also, Devin Young was runner-up at 195 as the Sachems finished seventh in the 13-team field, two spots behind Georgetown-Ipswich.

BEVERLY — On a great day for the Merrimack Valley, North Andover, Whittier Tech and Greater Lawrence all had highlights to talk about at the Division 2 North sectional.

Cam Hebert, Jake Garland and Jackson Clark were all 2-0 in the middle of Central Catholic's lineup as the Raiders remained unbeaten (16-0) with wins over Beverly 46-27 and Concord-Carlisle 65-14.

North Andover heavyweight Isaiah Metheny won all of his matches to highlight North Andover's quad-meet sweep of Beverly, Masconomet and North Reading/Lynnfield. Among six other wrestlers who were 3-0 on the day were 145-pounder Matt Berube and 152-pounder Eli Tuttle.

Andover's field hockey team blanked Beverly 3-0 to finish the regular season 16-1-1 as it prepares for the Division 1 tournament next week. Junior Katherine Furry scored twice and Katherine Devaney had a goal and an assist.

Brooke Lenes scored a whopping seven goals to led Andover over Beverly 19-10 in the first round of the Division 1 North girls tourney.

Grace Dore scored to put Pentucket ahead with 1:22 left in the game, and goalie Vanessa Franco turned in an acrobatic goal with 33 seconds left to clinch the Sachems' 14-13 win over Beverly.

BEVERLY — You know how high expectations must be for a team when a 60-point rout in the sectionals leaves a coach unsure of his squad's success.

But that was the result of Central Catholic's lopsided run through the Division 2 North field yesterday at Beveryly High School as four Raiders claimed crowns en route to a 216.5 point finish.
