Coming off a loss on Friday, the Masconomet girls hockey co-op bounced back with a huge 6-0 win over Marblehead. Isabel Hulse and Abby Gendron each had five points, with Hulse scoring a goal with four assists and Gendron scoring twice with three assists, and Molly Elmore recorded 21 saves in the shutout.

Buzzer beater

Trailing with under a minute to play, the Masconomet girls hockey co-op got a late goal from Abby Gendron assisted by Meghan McElaney to salvage a 2-2 tie with Peabody-North Reading. Isabel Hulse scored Masco's first goal on a power play with about five minutes to play and Molly Elmore made 25 saves.

An even dozen

The Masconomet girls hockey co-op buried Beverly-Danvers in its opener on Saturday, drubbing the home team 12-1 behind a comprehensive offensive effort. Mikayla Vincent recored a hat trick plus an assist, Isabel Hulse had two goals (including her first career goal) along with three assists, and Abby Gendron added two goals and an assist. Ellie Turgeon, Brooke Rogers, Cali Caponigro and Sophia Grutti all scored their first career goals as well.

Masco clinches NEC title

The Masconomet girls hockey co-op had a lot to celebrate on Wednesday, as the Cheiftains beat Marblehead 5-2 to clinch the program's first ever Northeastern Conference title while also locking up a state tournament bid. Newburyport's Sami Kelleher and Georgetown's Erin Irons and Kate Irons were among the goal scorers, and Newburyport's Molly Elmore made 24 saves.

Andover bounces back big-time

The Andover girls hockey team lost Saturday to Shrewsbury, the ninth-ranked team in the Hockey Night in Boston Division 1 poll, on a goal with 16 seconds left. Sunday another bitter loss seemed inevitable for the Golden Warriors. but with left 1:58 left Emily Wagner scored and with 55 seconds left Ally Wright scored for a pulsating 3-2 win over Masconomet, the Chieftains second loss of the year. Sean D'Urso had 21 saves in the win.

After going down 3-0 thanks to a natural hat trick from Exeter's Cori Bravi, the Govs stormed back in the second period, scoring five goals - three within 56 seconds. The Govs added two more in the third to put the game out of reach. The sophomore line of Alex Carpenter (3 goals, 2 assists), Kate Leary (2 goals and 2 assists), and Alanna McDonough (1 goal and 4 assists) were the difference makers. Molly Houston added a goal and an assist, and Abbey Karin (2 assists), and Kelly Lavallee played solid.

The River Rival Region may soon see a new sport that involves ice, skates, a puck and plenty of padding grace the region.

There is however one requisite: NO BOYS ALLOWED. Hoping to follow in the footsteps of the neighboring Northeastern Conference as well as the Cape Ann League, residents and family members alike have been pushing to create a girls cooperative hockey team for the Newburyport, Pentucket, Amesbury and Triton high schools.
