Streak comes to end

 

Masconomet finally put an end to the winning streak of the North Andover girls skiing team. The Knights hadn't lost a North Shore Ski League meet for five straight years and had won 74 straight meets but that ended Monday with a 71-64 setback to the Chieftains. Sydney Schwalm finished third overall and Jane Freund was 10th but Masco's superior depth prevailed.

Pentucket wins crown

 

Surprising Pentucket won its second tournament of the season, edging Spaulding, Vt. by one point to capture the Gionet Tournament in Pelham.

Tyler Knox remained unbeaten to capture the 106-pound title and Jason Young provided more gold with the 182-pound crown. Nic Williamson  (132) and Jacob Codair (220) both came in second.

Schwalm wins again

 

North Andover's Sydney Schwalm won her second straight North Shore Ski League race by a comfortable half of a second as North Andover's girls rolled to two more wins. Andover's Anna Souter and Haverhill's Jana Lorendo.

Pins galore

The Georgetown-Ipswich wrestling team picked up seven wins by pin, all in the first round, as it routed Malden 42-18 on Thursday night. Tre Aulson, Jei Yeaton and Matt Mansfield all got their pins in under a minute, and with the win the Royals are now 8-1-1 on the year.

Still unbeaten

The Pentucket boys basketball team remained unbeaten on the year by beating Georgetown 63-44. Gus Flaherty led the Sachems with 17 points and Pat Dillon added 15, though Georgetown did get a standout performance from Arlen Winer, who knocked down seven 3-pointers on his way to a game-high 23 points.

Smothering defense

The Pentucket girls basketball team turned in one of the most dominant defensive performances of the season, shutting down Georgetown for a 66-13 win. The Royals were held to just three points by halftime, with the Sachems staking out a 36-3 lead, and Angelica Hurley led a balanced offensive output with 11 points.

Fort Knox

 

Tyler Knox had three first-period pins to remain unbeaten and pace Pentucket to two wins and a tie in a quad-meet. Also, Chris Legacy, Nic Williamson and Korey Scheffen were perfect on the day with two pins as the Sachems improved to 8-2-1.

Royals fall in overtime

The Georgetown boys basketball team rallied from a 10-point fourth quarter deficit but fell in overtime to Bishop Fenwick 70-68. Hunter Lane poured in 33 points to lead the Royals, and Arlen Winer knocked down four 3-pointers on his way to 15 points.

Triton picks up first win

The Triton girls basketball team won its first game of the season on Monday, beating Georgetown 45-38. Emily Karvielis led the Vikings with 11 points, and Colleen McCarthy went 6 for 8 at the free throw line in the fourth quarter to seal the win. Georgetown was led by Lyla Krol with 12 points.

Depth gives Methuen titleta

 

Methuen may not have quite the star power as in the past, but the Rangers still have solid depth as they showed Saturday by placing first in the Wakefield Tournament. 

The Rangers placed 12 wrestlers and came away with three champions among five finalists. Placing first for Methuen were sophomore Adam Rader, who had a first period pin in the 113-pound finals, 145-pounder Zabian Cruz and heavyweight Dereck Ramirez. Cruz is a repeat champ at Wakefield while Ramirez won his first crown.
