Steve Ingemi's Magicians (3-1-2) went down to their first loss in NEC boys soccer Monday, falling to arch rival Swampscott.

The Magicians have a different makeup this year. It's not a team that will draw markers from opponents; that's because of the team's balance. The Magicians have scored 18 goals and have a dozen players with at least one score.

Six players scored for Marblehead in a 6-0 blanking of Winthrop. Oliver Kim (assist), Ryan Braun and Matt Frankel scored their first goals for the Magicians (3-0-2, 2-0-2) while David Traynor, Simon Crowe (2 assists) and Alex Terrill notched the other strikes.

The hero of last Thanksgiving's upset win over Swampscott, the 230-pound junior captain responded in dramatic fashion for the Magicians again last night. Perlow returned a fumble 80 yards to key another upset, a 26-7 triumph over heavily favored Salem at Piper Field.

Taylor Callahan scored two goals, leading Marblehead to a 2-1 Northeastern Conference win over host Danvers. Courtney Colantuno and Tori Snow assisted on Callahan's goals while midfielders Hillary Franklin and Kaitlin Taylor also played well for the Magicians (5-1). Marblehead goalie Libby Levine made seven stops in the win.

Marblehead rolled past Gloucester 4-0. Mary Keroack scored a pair of goals and Katherine Slattery also scored for the Magicians. Elizabeth Miller and Jessica Sasso notched assists in the win.

Taylor Callahan and Tori Snow led a balanced Marblehead attack with a goal a piece as the Magicians scored in each half to defeat Peabody 2-0. Tanner Rebecca Mullen was outstanding in the goal, knocking aside 18 shots in the loss.

Marblehead broke an early 1-1 tie with two quick goals to pull away from Gloucester 5-3. Michelle Manley paced the Magicians attack with a pair of goals and two assists while Tori Snow, Maggie McMullen and Stephanie Herbst also found the back of the net for Marblehead (1-0). Goaltender Libby Levine made 15 saves to collect her first win of the season.

GLOUCESTER | There would be no upset at Newell Stadium last night. Gloucester confirmed that very early.

Three offensive plays was all it took for the Fishermen to score their first two touchdowns and set themselves well on the way to a 48-15 win over Marblehead.

Tonight's Northeastern Conference matchup between Gloucester and Marblehead may not count toward a berth in the playoffs. But it still means a lot in the minds of the Fishermen and the Magicians.

That hunger should lead to an intense football game at Newell Stadium (7:45 p.m.), as both teams come in at 1-0, and both teams looked very impressive last week.

Marblehead (3-1) defeated Revere (1-3) with a flurry of goals. Of Marblehead's six, Taylor Callahan had two and Tori Snow, Michelle Manley, Maggie McMullen and Sarah Foss each had one. Snow, Manley and McMullen also picked up an assist apiece. Marblehead keeper Libby Levine stopped six shots, and Kari Osbourne and Courtney Colantuno both played well on the defensive end.
