Salem's main problem tonight against Londonderry could be overconfidence. The Blue Devils have looked so overwhelming in their first two games that they may start believing they're indestructible.

Enter Londonderry. While the Lancers fell flat against a vastly improved Manchester West squad, they were able to move the ball. Moreover, they should be ready to make amends for an uninspired second half last week.

At some point tonight at Grant Field, Londonderry's Ryan Griffin will turn the corner with nothing but Salem's Chris Sousa between him and glory.

That's Griffin, one of the biggest backs in area history at 6-foot-6 and 230 pounds, challenged by Sousa, at 5-foot-9, 180 pounds.

Sophomore Kelley Griffin had a great game, leading Londonderry over Salem 3-0. Griffin, Kim Larie and Tori McCombs scored for the Lancers and Katherine Donnelly and McCombs earned assists.

Still seeking a challenge, the Salem High football team smothered host Manchester Memorial, 42-7, before about 700 fans at Chabot-McDonough Stadium.

Kyleigh Keating scored three goals to lead Salem to a 5-1 win over Concord. Carolyn Malloy and Katie Bettencourt both scored a goal and an assist in the win.

Jackie Zani led Salem with a hat trick as the Blue Devils beat Trinity 6-3. Kristine Gosson, Sarah Raye, and Gina Righini all also scored for Salem.

SALEM, N.H. | The fun continued for Salem in the second half of its season opener against Timberlane last night, but senior Nick Cavallo's enjoyment of the Blue Devils' 48-8 romp over Timberlane was definitely tempered.
