MANCHESTER, N.H. — Nothing worked for Salem last night — nothing.
The Blue Devils offense mustered just one touchdown and the defense allowed 264 yards in the air and 229 rushing yards.
Salem was routed 50-6 by Manchester Central here at Gill Stadium despite entering the second quarter tied 6-6.
It certainly turned ugly after the first period.
"I'm disappointed," Salem first-year coach Adam Gagne said after he watched his team drop to 0-10. "We're a better team than what we showed out here tonight. And all season long, we haven't got the victories but I feel like we've been progressing and the kids have been playing hard. And tonight, I feel like we took a step back. Hats off to Manchester Central. They're a good football team.
"I thought we went toe to toe with them in the first quarter," Gagne added. "And then they made some plays and we didn't. And then we didn't respond the way I wanted to see them respond."
Salem sophomore Jacob Lakos started at quarterback. He finished 6 for 17 with two interceptions.
"I didn't have quite the best day," Lakos said. "They had a good secondary. ... We have a young team. We should be better next year."
This was Salem's final in-state game but it does have one more contest remaining at Lawrence the evening before Thanksgiving Day.
"It's a big thing," Lakos said. "It's a nice stadium. That's the last game of the season. I want to go win this."
