NASHUA — One week after dropping a 35-point decision in its season opener, Salem fell behind by 36 in its Division 1 opener. And although the Blue Devils rallied in the second half, it wasn't enough to overcome Nashua South, which rolled to a 43-19 victory.

The Panthers (2-0) compiled only six first downs while scoring four first-quarter touchdowns en route to a commanding 43-7 halftime advantage. Junior quarterback Trevor Knight led Nashua's opening-period salvo with three rushing touchdowns and a 67-yard scoring toss.

The Blue Devils, who are running a new offense under first-year coach Adam Gagne, answered with a 1-yard run by Jacob Lakos midway through the second quarter. Jackson Peck, who had a game-high 126 yards rushing, and Steven Bemister added second-half scoring runs.

"We're getting it," said Gagne, who installed a spread offense after replacing Jack Gatti and his double wing. "I understand the whole system is new, and we've got to do a better job of picking it up. It's new, but that's not an excuse. The new system didn't get us in this position. We have to work on the fundamentals of blocking and tackling."
