Odds and ends: This will probably be the last year for head coach Mike Sorter, who retired as a teacher and boys soccer coach last year. ... Sophomore Jess Barrett, who was a utility player last year, moves behind the plate to catch her sister Stephanie. ... Amy Green is in her fourth year as the starting shortstop and her second year as a captain. ... Junior Jessica Zeidler has the inside track on right field, one of the few positions up for grabs.

Coach Mike Sorter (12th year, 143-83): "On paper, we're a good team, but we're a little thin on pitching and we need Stephanie (Barrett) to stay healthy. We have a lot of varsity experience and we should be strong up the middle, which is a good place to be strong. I think we have tremendous character kids. It might be the nicest group of athletes I've ever had."
