Lead-off batter Alyssa Melendez had a huge afternoon going 5 for 5, with three RBI and Greater Lawrence plated 11 in the sixth to defeat Shawsheen for the first time since 2006 in a 19-17 slugfest. The second of Melendez' doubles led off the winning rally as the Reggies used eight hits and four walks in the sixth to rally from a 15-8 deficit. Sophomore Emily Viens was brought in with the tying runs on base in the top of the sixth but recorded a strikeout to preserve the win.
"The kids were upbeat today,' coach Jay Santomassino said. "We've been down the last few games. But today we were up. I told them to play hard the last few innings and it will pay off down the road."
