ASHBURNHAM — Robert Jones three for 249 yards and two touchdowns and added 74 yards and two more scores on the ground to pace Phillips in a 32-22 victory over Cushing Academy.
"We played sloppy in the first half," said Phillips coach Leon Modeste. "But we played much better in the second half. Our defense did a great job of keeping us in it until the offense came around."
Jones set the tone early, completing a 65-yard touchdown pass to Jack Belluche (86 receiving yards) in the first quarter. He also three a 66-yard score to Haldall Lundevall later in the game.
"We are throwing the ball the most we have in a long time," said Modeste. "Probably the most since (former Pinkerton Academy star) Bryan Farris was here."
Andover's John Simourian was his dominant self, making a team-high eight solo tackles. Jumaane Ford added six solo tackles, two sacks and caused and recovered a fumble.
"Our defense was very tough," said Modeste. "And Jones has been excellent. We have really been riding him and he has responded."
