Central girls outlast Pentucket
A pair of area girls hoop powers hooked up in the matinee at the Comcast Tournament.
In the girls final, it was Central outlasting Pentucket, 50-48.
Each team came in with impressive resumes.
The 19-1 Sachems, No. 1 in The Eagle-Tribune Fab 5, owns a top-10 rating in a pair of Eastern Mass. polls.
Central, fourth in the Fab 5, is a top-five team in EMass from the pre-eminent conference in the state.
In the end, it was the Raider depth paying dividends with Tournament MVP Katie Zenevitch (9 points) mired in foul trouble.
Sophomore Gabie Polce claimed a spot on the All-Tourney team, leading the Raiders, now 17-3, with 15 points.
Ashley Evangelista and senior Gia O'Connor had nine points apiece, while Melissa Miller chipped in eight.
And big brother Carson wasn't the only Desrosiers sibling to earn their keep. Sophomore Kendall Desrosiers was immense off the glass, hauling in 10 huge rebounds.
Senior Kirsten Daamen paced Pentucket with 18 points, and Ashley Visellis added 10.
Point guard Erin McNamara and senior captain Andrea Attenasio tossed in nine apiece.
Both Daamen and Attenasio earned All-Tourney team honors for the Sachems.
