Coach: Lauren Hefferan (1st season)

Key players: Allie O'Brien, sr.; Kristen Johnson, sr.; Meg Cronan, sr.; Alyssa Matt, sr.; Nicole Thurlow, jr.; Callie Hefferan, jr.; Trisha Grasso, jr.; Taylor Damon, jr. Impact newcomers: Taylor Purcell, jr.; Rachel Notargiacomo, jr.

Strengths: Hefferan has been pleasantly surprised by her players' conditioning levels. Many spring tracksters came out for the team, and she expects the defensive-minded team to have an edge on opponents in the second half.

Concerns: The Clippers struggled to find goal scorers last year, and that problem could resurface. Newburyport will work on shooting drills early in the season to try to solve the problem.

First game: Sept. 5 vs. Pentucket (6:30 p.m., Newburyport High)

Coach's outlook: "We want to get our passing game down and be as aggressive as possible. Our goal is to finish with a winning percentage above .500 and get back into the tournament."
