Janey Diamond's goal midway through the first half proved to be the game-winner as Masconomet held off a late Amesbury rally for a 1-0 win over the Indians. Kelly Gibson assisted on the Chieftains goal and Mary Pizzi made four saves to secure the win.

Janey Diamond's hat trick paced Masconomet over Wilmington, 6-1. Kelly Gibson added a goal and three assists for the Chieftains (1-0-0), who also saw tallies from Kayla Nazas and Heather Fraser.

The Masconomet football team will have a new-look backfield, but the goals remain the same for this season.

There are still a pair of Bunkers in the backfield | but it will not be Craig and Eric, the dynamic quarterback/running back duo of cousins that terrorized the Cape Ann League for the past two falls. Craig Bunker has moved on to Colby College, while Eric is doing a post-graduate year at Phillips Exeter Academy.

BYFIELD | Triton's defense looked strong against the Masconomet rush, led by senior co-captain Eric Bunker, for most of the night. The Vikings' D even reversed the Chieftains for -4 total ground yards through the first half, but Eric Bunker also proved to be a dangerous passing target for his quarterback cousin, Craig Bunker as the duo connected on a 56-yard pass in the first quarter to give 9-1 Masconomet the early lead | and Masco never looked back as it left Byfield with the 21-0 shut out.

BOXFORD | The old saying is that you can go to the well once too often. But apparently, you can go to the Bunker as often as you need.

That's what the Masconomet football team did last night.

It's what the Chieftains may do all season, too.

AMESBURY | Amesbury fought a valiant, uphill battle against Masconomet's Bunker brothers at Landry Stadium last night but ultimately the Indians' gutsy performance against the mighty non-league opponent came up short as the Chieftains desperate to make a statement on both sides of the ball came out aggressively, scoring touchdowns on their first two drives en route to downing the Indians, 29 to 6.
