In his first varsity match, Connor Sheehan had a pin in 15 seconds to highlight Andover's 33-13 win over Leominster. Miles Fraser and Elias Maita also had first-minute pins.

Jose Diaz had the win of the day for Methuen, a 10-4 decision at 170 pounds ofer Greater Lawrence standout Ader Mezidor as the Rangers crushed both the Reggies (70-0) and Leominster (65-6) for their fourth straight win.

Newburyport's Anna Hickman went off for 26 points in Friday's season-opening loss to Leominster, 42-40. Katie Hadden had 10 points and Abigail Gillingham added the remaining four as the Clippers fell to 0-1 to start the season.

Sophomore Roan Marcano had key hits in the top of the seventh and the decisive ninth inning as Methuen tripped Leominster, 8-4, in extras. Jordan Perdomo had three hits.

Methuen's rising wrestlers swept Leominster, Acton-Boxboro and Haverhill to improve to 4-0. Billy Wehring had three first-period pins and Jarmany Colon and Will Travers had key pins in a 39-30 win over the Hillies.

Haverhill senior Orlando Rojas had two pins for his 99th and 100th wins as the Hillies won both ends of a tri-meet at Andover. Reece Millington (145) and freshman Rolando Corrasco both had two pins as the Hillies improved to 12-6.

Haverhill and Methuen both won four meets in a multi-team meet at Haverhill. For the Rangers (19-6), Christian Monserrat remained unbeaten at 138 and Billy Wehring and Rafael Caceres was also 4-0. For the Hillies (18-6), Danny Dejesus, Reece Millington, Orlando Rojas, Jake Prescott and Jordan Faulkner were all 4-0.

Leominster had a chance for a tie but Saul Medina got the pin at 285 to seal up a 48-36 win for Haverhill. Parris Williams and Samie El-Zaib continued to rack up the pins for the Hillies.

The seeds had Andrik Cruz primed for a third straight sectional final disappointment.

Cruz would have none of that. The Methuen High senior, wrestling at 145 pounds, made his third North championship try a winning one, heading up an area contingent of two champs and 15 places moving on to the Division 1 North championships in Bridgewater next weekend.

Tristian Shannon made a layup with 35 seconds remaining to lead Andover over Leominster 70-69.

The senior forward finished with a team-high 21 points and eight rebounds for the Golden Warriors, who escaped after the Blue Devils missed a long-range jumper in the game's final seconds.
