Bounce back win

Coming off a tough loss to Pentucket on Friday, Newburyport came back with a 56-51 win at Dracut on Sunday. Casey McLaren knocked down three 3-pointers on his way to 19 points, and George Coryell added 10 points for the Clippers. Newburyport is now 12-5 on the season.

Pentucket's boys pulled away in the fourth quarter to beat Newburyport for the second time this year, 63-57. Nate McGrail led the Sachems (12-5) with 19 and Spencer Pacy added 15. Newburyport was led by Parker McLaren with 19.

Big second quarter

Newburyport boys basketball outscored Amesbury 20-11 in the second quarter to help pull out a 61-52 win at home on Tuesday night. Casey McLaren knocked down fou 3-pointers on his way to 16 points, Parker McLaren had 12 points and Noah Van Schalkwyk and Jake Valcich each had seven points. Amesbury was led by John Sydlowski and Zach Labrecque, who had 12 points each.

Port pulls off huge comeback

Trailing by 10 going into the fourth quarter, the Newburyport boys basketball team turned on the jets, outscoring Georgetown 19-2 in the final frame to pull out a thrilling 56-49 win on Tuesday. Sophomore Ryan Archie knocked down three 3-pointers on his way to 20 points for the Clippers, while Georgetown was led by a monster performance by Hunter Lane, who scored 30 points and grabbed 20 rebounds in the loss. Colin Dow also fell a couple points shy of a triple double, finishing with 5 points, 10 rebounds and 13 assists.

Clippers take control of CAL

Trailing 38-37 after three quarters, the Newburyport boys basketball team erupted for 31 points in the fourth quarter to blow by Lynnfield 68-55. WIth the win, Newburyport remains unbeaten in the Cape Ann League and now holds sole possession of first place. Ryan Archie (17 points) and George Coryell (16 points) had career best performances, and Casey McLaren led the way with 22 points.
