MANCHESTER — Pinkerton junior Meghan Cross started the season slowly, but she may be peaking at just the right time.
Cross finished third overall in the Division 1 state meet at Derryfield Park Saturday, running the rugged 5K course in the rain with a fine time of 19:16.4. That paced the Astros to their fourth straight D1 crownwith 81 points, three better than runner-up Exeter.

The Northern Essex Community College volleyball team cruised to a 3-0 win over Holyoke Community College, improve its record to 6-2. Leading the offensive attack was Amanda Forgetta, who tallied 15 kills with four aces. Andover's Sarah Shattuck added eight kills, while Salem's Rachel Amiss had six kills and five aces. Lawrence's Nashaly Sanchez had 29 assists.
