HAVERHILL – Not long ago, things looked bleak for the Haverhill boys volleyball squad. With a Covid outbreak and injuries dragging them down, the Hillies were hovering around the .500 mark entering the second week of May.

Ryan Difloures scored 14 kills and Devon Buscema had 35 assists to lead Haverhill to a 3-0 win over Andover. Reuben Osborne had 14 service points for the Golden Warriors.

Andover outlasted Central Catholic 3-1 in a four-game match in which each set was decided by three points or fewer. Sophomore Marco Gomez-Cabo was huge for the Warriors with 25 assists, six kills four blocks and 15 service winners. Captain Owen Chanthaboun had 25 kills. 

Alex McNally tallied 9 kills, 5 blocks and 2 digs to help Andover beat North Andover 3-1 on Monday. Owen Chanthaboun added 21 kills and 3 blocks and Enzo Masters ran the back from his libero positions with 9 digs.

Playing through a shoulder injury suffered a day earlier, Enzo Masters scored 17 digs to lead Andover to a thrilling 3-2 victory over Haverhill, taking the deciding game 15-11. Owen Chanthaboun added 21 kills and 11 service points for the Golden Warriors, while Ryan Difloures led the Hillies with 16 kills and four aces.

Marco Gomez-Cabo had 19 assists, 11 service points and five aces to lead Andover to a 3-1 win over Billerica on Monday. Owen Chanthaboun added 19 kills and three blocks and Enzo Masters chipped in with 14 service points.

After dropping the first two games, Andover volleyball rallied for a thrilling 3-2 win over Algonquin on Monday, taking the fifth game 15-13. David Gao led the Golden Warriors with 13 service points, Owen Chanthaboun added 21 kills and Enzo Masters had 20 digs for the winners.

Defensive specialist Isaac Williams had a late stretch of five aces in Game 5. He carried Andover to a 3-2 win over Central (15-10 in Game 5) Owen Chanthaboun 16th kill sealed the deal.
