Pentucket's Leah McNamara scored with about 9 minutes left to cut the Newburyport lead to one goal.
But the No. 17-seeded Sachems wouldn't score again and lost 2-1 to the No. 1 seed in the Division 2 first round.
McNamara finished with 10 goals this season.
"(McNamara) really stepped into that (scoring) role and exceeded my expectations," Pentucket coach Greg Scruton said, adding McNamara played with great intensity — and tried to make players around her better.
Abby Torrisi assisted McNamara.
Sam Bomba stopped by shots for the Sachems, which finished at 7-7-5.
Sarah Higgins, Alex Moore and Kaci Dumas played strong defense. Sarah Vienneau did her job in the midfield.
"Our goal was to make the state tournament, which we did," Scruton said. "Very pleased with the outcome of the year."
