Kayla Maloney's two-run home run in the fifth inning of game one highlihted Phillips nine-hit offensive attack. Maloney (3 for 4, two runs scored and two RBIs) also pitched six shutout innings to lead Phillips past Nobles, 6-1, in the opening game of this year’s Big East Tourney.
In its second game, Phillips scored once in the third and again in the seventh as the Big Blue advanced to the winner's bracket final with a 2-0 win over Tabor. Maloney was 2 for 2 to lead the seven-hit attack, and she tossed a two-hit gem.
Phillips meets BB&N today at 9:30 a.m. at Phillips, in the winner's bracket game. The winner will advance to the finals (2 p.m.) while the loser moves to the loser's bracket final at 11:30 a.m.
Brooks was eliminated from the tourney in two straight games.
