DANVERS — The late season momentum continued for Central Catholic Saturday as the Raiders captured the Division 2 North title in convincing fashion.
Led by champions Mike Glynn (106) and Joey Sanchez (145), the Raiders piled up 213 1/2 points to easily outdistance runner-up Burlington (156.5). North Andover was three points back in third place.

METHUEN — When finally given the chance, junior Matt Cabezas and senior Dan O'Connell delivered big time Saturday afternoon at the Division 1 North sectional.
Thwarted by injuries for two straight years, and knocked out Wednesday from a blow in his match against Central, O'Connell delivered a convincing 9-3 decision over Westford's Jake Morash for the 182-pound title.

The Central Catholic sophomore 106-pounder demonstrated that Saturday afternoon as he help the Raiders win their first-ever Division 2 dual-meet state title, beating a talented North Attleboro team (21-2) in the finals, 36-30.

CJ Cincotta, bumped up a weight class for a better match, was up to the challenge, defeating defending 160-pound Div. 2 state champ Blake Hiltz with an 11-2 major decision to highlight North Andover's 47-24 victory over Dracut. Jamil Nickerson (120) and Will Schimmueller (182) also had big wins for the Knights (47-24), the latter coming in overtime.

Trailing 36-0 to Lawrence, North Andover's wrestling team stormed back for a 69-12 victory over Lawrence. A key to the turnaround was at 106 when Kris Rhoton got a late pin after trailing 13-2. A late pin by Dan Wilkes at 126 was also vital for the Knights.

Central Catholic won 10 matches, including some key tossups, in a 50-18 romp over North Andover. Key close decisions for the Raiders (11-2) were won by Daniel Almarante at 138 and Matt Shaw at 160. Will Schimmueller had a nice 4-2 overtime decision for the Knights at 170.

North Andover's Joey Valentino remained undefeated, in impressive fashion, winning the 126-pound weight class in the rugged Cumberland, R.I. Tournament, taking a dominating major decision in the finals.

North Andover went 2-2 in the rugged Springfield Duals despite missing a couple of wrestlers. Ethan Ford (113) remained unbeaten and continued to look impressive and Joey Valentino (126), Eli Tuttle (145) and CJ Cincotta (152) were all also 4-0. Tuttle looked terrific in a tough weight class and Ford and Jamil Nickerson, in a 39-37 win over West Springfield, had pins to close the match and seal the win.

MARSHFIELD — North Andover's wrestling team put it all together Thursday, finishing first at the 38-team Marshfield Tournament.
Thanks to some clutch wrestling in both the championship and consolation rounds, the Knights finished with 193 1/2 points to edge Cumberland, R.I. (189) and St. John's Prep (184).
